My name is John Dwayne Durfee. I have been working on my family tree since the 70's. It is going very slowly. Most
of my info is from Documents from relatives, newspaper OB, Internet and looking at a lot of headstones.
I have found my 3rd great grandfather: Dr. William Fielding Durfee. He was Born 4 July 1818 and Died 11 March 1876. He had 3 wife's over the years. The first was Mary Ann Morrell who was mother to 5 children. The 2nd wife was Lucretia Moore who had 10 children. and the 3rd wife was Cela Jane Elkins who had 1 child. Dr. Durfee and his family traveled by flat boat down the Ohio River from Kenton Co. Kentucky to Southern Illinois. They made this journey along with the Andrew Jackson Hill Family of Campbell Co. around 1857.
I believe Dr. William Fielding's Parents are Ebund Durfee and Margarett Welch Durfee. Margarett Welch was born 17 March 1775 and died on 18 December 1849. I'm not sure of the spelling for Ebund. It could have been Ebenezer.
I am now looking for any information about Ebund and Margarett Welch Durfee.
The first Durfee to come to the United States was Thomas Durfee in the 1600's. William F. Reed wrote 2 book's entitled Descendants of Thomas Durfee of Portsmouth RI. CS71.D958-1902-05.
William F. Reed's 2 books on the Durfee Family Tree. Vol. 1 - 1902 and vol. 2 - 1905 can be purchased by the Higginson Book Company . The price is around $63.00 for Vol. 1 and $65.00 for Vol. 2. plus shipping. Higginson Book Company address is 148-GH Washington St. Salem , MA 01970.
